Seamus Kelly Runs 300th 5KM Down Under
Seamus Kelly of Leixlip, County Kildare, has completed his 300th 5km park run in Cairns, Queensland, Australia at the age of 68.
Seamus completed the race in just 22 minutes, a very respectable time that places him among the top 10% of 5k runners in the U.S.
The veteran racer chalked up seven runs while visiting his son and twin grandchildren with his wife, Ann. Their son Patrick works in the tropical northeast coast city as a coach with Freedom Boxing.
Father and son trained together before the event at the GAA Club, home of the Cairns Chieftans, a Gaelic Football club based in Cairns.
Despite his preoccupation with family and training, Seamus is keeping his eye on home. In particular, Johnny Doyle of Allenwood Celtic AFC and Eamon Callaghan of Naas AFC.
Seamus speculates, “They might have another 25 years left in them yet if they avoid the hard challenges and keep up the running.” He congratulated them both on their recent victories in the Leinster Club Intermediate and Senior Championships.
